Founder, The Conscious Cracker Co.
I have always had the strong desire to create change in the world, but like many have felt powerless as to how I can make a difference. Other than living consciously, with minimal waste, how could I help others to have more choices available, which will also reduce our reliance on plastic and what goes to landfill?
“We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly.
We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
This quote really hits home for me. If we all take small steps towards reducing waste each effort will be felt collectively on a grand scale. There will be less plastic in our oceans and less going into landfill.
Last year Christmas rolled around at lightening speed, as it so often does, and I was baffled to see that the standard, mass produced, plastic filled Christmas Bon-Bons were in every department store with little alternative for a more conscious way to celebrate. Adults and children love the excitement and tradition of the Christmas Cracker and the ‘BANG’ with a gift or surprise that is flung across the beautifully decorated Christmas table. But the surprise to me is often met with disappointment as the gift is collected from wherever it landed. It could be so much more than a cheap plastic toy that serves no purpose and is headed directly for landfill. I saw this as an opportunity to do things differently, imagine a gift that could be used and enjoyed? Imagine giving people an option to purchase an alternative Christmas Bon-Bon that contains sustainable, practical gifts that will be appreciated and used! And imagine if this could help create change in the world by donating proceeds to various organisations that are doing incredible things!
